Everyone who files a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy case must receive and review what is known as the Bankruptcy Information Sheet.
The Bankruptcy Information Sheet is a two-page document provided by the U.S. Trustee Program (part of the U.S. Department of Justice). Further, the Chapter 7 Trustee, the official who administers your bankruptcy estate, will ask at the bankruptcy hearing if you have reviewed this document. I provide clients this document as part of my intake material, during the initial bankruptcy consultation. I provide this document again to clients right after we file for chapter 7 bankruptcy.
This document simply details what bankruptcy is (both chapter 7 and chapter 13), what reaffirmation agreements are, what debts may or may not be dischargeable, and so on.
